The large Victorian country house, set in more than one hundred acres of parkland, is a superb setting for a prep. school. The school offers a very wide variety of outdoor activities in addition to the normal organised games of rugby, netball, soccer, hockey, cricket, rounders and athletics. There is an indoor heated swimming pool. The School also has a regular link with the local community through the Parish church.
The curriculum is broad and includes French, Science, C.D.T., Art and Music for all forms. Both effort and achievement are regularly assessed and the academic record is excellent. Scholarships are regularly won to major public schools.
The School has long enjoyed a high reputation for Music. The choir is affiliated to The Royal School of Church Music and children can learn to play string, woodwind and brass instrument and the piano.
Tennis, riding, shooting, fishing, squash, golf, karate, model railway, cookery, needlework and printing are a few examples of the many creative and sporting pursuits available to children in their leisure time. More important than its facilities, however, is the atmosphere of the school. The 104 children are a large happy purposeful family in which an individual's talents can be encouraged and self-confidence developed. The same warmth can be felt in the pre-preparatory school where 108 children in six small classes enjoy new buildings and can share many of the Upper School's facilities. But the feel of a school is not something to read about: it needs to be experienced. Visitors are welcome.
